·        The Lorsch Christ:  from the Lorsch Abbey it’s widely believed to be the earliest surviving example of figurative stained glass.  It dates from the tenth or eleventh century.

·        Benedictine Abbey Church of Saint-Denis:  St Denis was the burial place of French kings for over 800 years.  Though the original church was built around the year 800, its most notable architectural features were added when the east and west ends were rebuilt 1141.   The revolutionary vaulting and construction techniques used at this time make it the first Gothic Church.

·        Tiffany glass:  Tiffany invented a process for making opalescent glass at a time most other artists believed clear stained glass superior.  Examples of his lamps, vases, flat pieces, and other works are in museums around the world, and he is widely considered to be a main contributor to the rebirth of stained glass art in the early 20th century.

·        Doak Campbell Stadium:  a modern piece, it’s one of the five largest stained glass pieces in the world, students at Florida State University created the 20’ by 30’ window.  The completed window contains approximately 8,500 pieces of glass.

How to Restore Stained Glass
If a piece is dingy or grimy, simply cleaning can add new sparkle and luster.  Cleaning stained glass is simple:  use a glass cleaner like Windex, or use soap and water, and gently scrub the glass with a cloth or a fine brush to remove buildup or grime.  Because water can leave marks or spots, make sure you dry the piece thoroughly after you clean it.  Details...
